Why does the installer not launch on my PC?

The current version of MyMouseHouse only runs on the Macinstosh platform. Please visit the technology page for more information on supported hardware.

I have administrator priveleges, why can't I create a new user?

In the beta-test version we have disabled your ability to create new users. This was done mostly for security.

How secure is my data?

We run MyMouseHouse behind a firewall on a restricted access server that is backed up regularly. Should you have a problem or need to restore to a previous version of your data, contact us via email.

Only you, your designated Users and our System Administrators can access your database.

How do I download my data?

We can provide your data to you in a variety of formats. Please contact us to discuss your needs.

What is the line number and why is it important?

The Line number is used to distinguish the progeny of one creation event from progeny another similar but not identical creation event. For example, If you were to generate two independent founder mice with construct "A" then you might designate one founder mouse as 1001 and the second founder mouse as 1002. Our convention has been to set the Line number to equal the founder number (in this case mouse 1001 establishes Line 1001 and mouse 1002 establishes Line 1002). Why? Even though mouse 1001 and mouse 1002 both carry the exact same transgene - the site of integration probably differs so the Line number establishes a lasting and propagated relationship to the founder. Down the road a mouse might be born with ID = 2004 that is a progeny of 1001 and will appear as 2004[1001] while another mouse with ID=2005 related to founder 1002 would appear as 2005[1002] and we'd know immediately which founder they came from.

Why does changing the birthdate of one mouse change the birthdate for all it's siblings?

This is not actually a bug but a rule since the birthdate relation between littermates must always be preserved. Hence changing the birthdate for one mouse in a litter must change the birthdate for all mice in a litter. However, if you really made a mistake entering the birthdate, MyMH will save you time by automatically performing the repetitive task of updating the birthdate for each mouse in the litter.

Why did the breeding stop when I removed a parent from the cage?

By default removing a parent from an active breeding cage should reset the cage to "idle" and stop the breeding. However, it is sometimes necessary to remove a parent (due to death or the mouse was needed in another breeding) before the breeding has produced a litter. In this case we suggest you generate a litter (with 1 or more pups) and then remove the parent as required. The number of pups in the litter can later be modified and the birthdates changed after eartags are assigned. To change birthdate select any mouse in the litter in the Data Manger screen and using the Modify Mouse function (this will change the birthdate for the entire litter).

Can I generate multiple litters from a single breeding?

It is possible to generate multiple litters from a single mother - father breeding. Simply create pups in the breeding cage and move them to another cage - you do not need to eartag. Then repeat the operation as needed. However, once a cage is reset to "idle" the cage has to be manually reset to breeding OR one parent must be transfered out to another cage and then returned.

Why do I get Java errors when I try to login?

We can not guarantee a connection. This is determined by a number of factors including your configuration and the network you use. Although we strive to accommodate all users but we do not have the resources to troubleshoot individual configuration issues.

There is always possibility that you are behind an institutional / OS firewall (or have an antivirus program) that is restricting your ability to connect. Please try to (i) diable any antivirus or firewall programs and (ii) make sure you allow your Mac to accept incoming packets from the MyMouseHouse remote server. In OS X (10.5.6) select System Preferences > Security > Firewall and make sure the setting for MyMouseHouse.app reads "Allow incoming connections". It should look like this:
